Data Engineer / Data Analyst

An established freight platform business based in Bellville, Cape Town is seeking to employ a Data Engineer on a permanent basis.

The Data Engineer in this cutting edge and rapidly expanding business will play a key part in shaping how they collect, organizes, and leverages data to drive business decisions. The initial focus will be on report writing and providing actionable insights. As the role evolves, you will develop and maintain robust data pipelines to ensure seamless integration and accessibility of data across the organization.

This position will lead the data analytics responsibilities within an existing and established technical team.

• Data Reporting - Design, develop, and maintain detailed and accurate reports to meet operational and business needs. Collaborate with teams to identify key metrics and ensure timely delivery of reporting solutions.
• Data Engineering and Pipeline Development - Assist in designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and efficient data pipelines. Optimize data flow and collection across various teams and systems as the role evolves.
• Collaboration and Communication - Engage with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Present insights and reports effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Tools and Process Optimization - Leverage Excel for data manipulation, analysis, and reporting in the initial stages. Transition to advanced tools and frameworks as the data ecosystem grows.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 2–4 years of experience in a data engineering or similar role.
• Exposure to the logistics industry or knowledge of supply chain management is
• Proficient in Excel, with strong skills in advanced formulas, pivot tables, and macros.
• Experience with SQL for querying and managing relational databases.
• Familiarity with ETL tools and frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, Talend, or similar).
• Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
• Programming experience in Python, R, or another data-centric language is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work independently and within a team.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Salary: R50,000 to R80,000 / month, negotiable and dependant on skills and experience.
