The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to support internal and external marketing and communication strategy, write and disseminate publicity material, respond to inquiries from the public and media, and coordinate promotional events, develop commercial relationships with businesses to the benefit of the garden and assist with managing the digital platforms of the garden.

This position requires a Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 4 years of work experience in relevant field.

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: budgeting or financial management training; digital marketing training; customer relations, professionalism, events management experience; media relations experience; background of advertising management and digital communication; brand management; stakeholder management experience; knowledge of the tourism sector; advanced planning, organising, and problem solving skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; report writing skills, people management skills, excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous. The possession of a valid driver’s license with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:
  • Champion communication and media engagement on behalf of the garden;
  • Pioneer marketing for the Free State National Botanical Gardens (NBGs)
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage events for the Free State National Botanical Gardens as well as expositions and functions;
  • Manage stakeholder relationships; and
  • Secure commercial partnerships that would benefit the Free State National Botanical Gardens.
